A 1,000-mile Martian cloud may reveal new atmospheric physics. Researchers modeled the Arsia Mons Elongated Cloud, a seasonal plume on Mars that can stretch more than 1,000 miles before dissipating. Their model suggests the cloud may be driven by an atmospheric process not previously directly observed on any planet.

2018 observations make Arsia Mons’s 1,000-mile seasonal cloud a test of the model, not proof of new physics: its proposed atmospheric mechanism must reproduce the plume’s length and dissipation. At its next seasonal appearance, the test is whether Mars data match it.

TokenGate targets the cost of long-context AI. Stanford and UC Berkeley researchers introduced TokenGate, a learned token-pruning module designed to reduce the cost of long-context LLM inference. They report time-to-first-token improvements of 1.4x to 11.3x and peak-memory reductions of 1.5x to 3.4x without reported accuracy loss.

Microsoft open-sourced a harness for 1,024 AI agents. Microsoft Research has open-sourced Agensh, a decentralized multi-agent harness built to scale collaborative agent work without a central orchestrator. It gives agents a shared Git repository, chat, and findings board, and was tested from one to 1,024 agents on ProgramBench within a six-hour budget.

Instacart reportedly explored a sale with DoorDash and Uber. Instacart has reportedly hired an investment bank to assess strategic options and held acquisition discussions with DoorDash, while also speaking with Uber. Bloomberg reported that Uber ended its discussions; the talks remain preliminary and may not result in a transaction, while Instacart declined to comment.

Instacart’s reported sale process hinges on DoorDash: Uber ended talks, leaving DoorDash as the only disclosed buyer in preliminary discussions. Watch for DoorDash to advance beyond preliminary talks or for no transaction to emerge.

Google's AI search is reshaping online publishing. Google's AI search features have disrupted the long-standing publisher model built around earning referrals from Google search results. Publishers now face a changed traffic ecosystem as AI-generated answers increasingly satisfy queries without sending users to source sites.

Musk says Ukraine violated Starlink's rules. Elon Musk said Ukraine had violated Starlink's rules following a disruption to satellite connectivity. Ukraine said drone systems using Starshield, the Pentagon-funded service distinct from commercial Starlink, had returned to normal operating speeds.

Musk’s Starlink enforcement is Ukraine’s demonstrated connectivity risk, not a 5–10 MW ground-power constraint: Starlink was disrupted while Pentagon-funded Starshield drone links returned to normal speeds. Watch for another service split by year-end 2026.

BlackX bootkit bypasses Secure Boot through the Baton Drop flaw. Researchers identified a UEFI bootkit called BlackX that was used in an espionage campaign in early 2026. The malware exploited the Baton Drop Secure Boot bypass vulnerability to load a malicious driver intended to interfere with Kaspersky and Avast security products.

BlackX makes Baton Drop an operational route for disabling endpoint defenses, not just a Secure Boot weakness. By end-2026, the test is whether related espionage activity again pairs the bypass with drivers targeting Kaspersky or Avast.

Two drinks a day may carry more risk than expected. A study published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs found that consuming two alcoholic drinks daily was associated with an estimated 1-in-25 lifetime risk of death from alcohol-related causes. The analysis found no significant overall health benefit from alcohol consumption, with risks increasing as intake rose.

Rutgers-led findings undermine “moderate” drinking as a public-health label: two daily drinks carry a 1-in-25 lifetime alcohol-death risk without significant overall health benefit. The test is whether 2030 U.S. dietary guidelines revise that framing.
