DeepMind’s hurricane model delivered an extra day of warning. Google DeepMind and Google Research’s WeatherNext model predicted Hurricane Melissa’s Category 5 landfall in Jamaica five days in advance with 80% confidence, according to a Nature paper. Researchers reported roughly one additional day of cyclone-warning lead time on average compared with existing forecasting systems.

Four coordinated AI agents beat Claude Opus 4.8 on coding tasks. Researchers at Coral AI Labs and several universities introduced AgentRadio, an asynchronous message-passing layer that lets coding agents exchange information during execution rather than only at review stages. On long-horizon questions across production code repositories, the four-agent system reportedly outperformed Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.8 on enterprise coding tasks.

Coral AI Labs’ AgentRadio let four agents share updates while coding and beat Claude Opus 4.8 on long-horizon production-code tasks. By review, dependent tasks will already reflect each other’s changes.

Berkshire Hathaway is spending down its cash pile under Greg Abel. Berkshire Hathaway repurchased about $4.5 billion of its own shares in the second quarter and bought nearly $20 billion in equities. The capital deployment under CEO Greg Abel indicates Berkshire is putting more of its cash reserves into public markets and buybacks.

Berkshire Hathaway deployed about $24.5B in Q2: $4.5B in share repurchases and nearly $20B in equities, roughly 15% of its $167B cash pile. By 2027, that reported Q2 total will remain $24.5B.

The physical backbone of AI: compute, data centers, supply chains, and the geopolitics of energy

Firebird opened the CIS region’s largest AI factory in Armenia. U.S.-based AI cloud company Firebird opened an AI computing facility in Hrazdan, Armenia, built on Nvidia accelerated computing and Dell PowerEdge servers. Firebird said it plans to deploy more than 70,000 Nvidia Rubin and Blackwell GPUs and 300 megawatts of AI infrastructure capacity in Armenia by the end of 2027.

Firebird’s 300MW carveout equals about 10% of Armenia’s grid and matches Yerevan’s residential load, putting AI compute in direct competition with homes and hydro exports. If transmission upgrades stall, tariffs will spike and brownouts will hit by mid-2027.

The standard exercise target may offer only modest heart protection. A large study reported that the current guideline of 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous weekly activity was associated with only modest protection against heart attack and stroke. The study found substantially larger reductions in cardiovascular risk at approximately 560 to 610 minutes of weekly activity, though the reported threshold varied with participants’ fitness levels.

560–610 weekly minutes of brisk activity, versus 150 minutes, were linked in a large BMJ observational study to larger reductions in heart attack and stroke risk; the threshold varied by fitness. Guideline panels will debate higher targets before 2028.
