Disruptive closes a $10B fund for big bets. Dallas-based investment firm Disruptive closed a $10 billion blind-pool fund to make late-stage investments of as much as $1 billion in at least 10 companies. The firm will target capital-intensive sectors including artificial intelligence and defense, building on prior investments in Palantir, Airbnb, and Spotify.

Disruptive’s $10 billion fund, with checks up to $1 billion, is built for late-stage rounds beyond conventional venture capacity. The test is how much of its minimum 10-company portfolio lands in AI and defense.

IBM links two quantum chips. IBM demonstrated a superconducting-cable link between quantum bits on two separate chips, a step toward modular quantum computers that can scale beyond the limits of a single processor. The result addresses a central engineering requirement for connecting smaller quantum processors into larger systems, though the cables and inter-chip operations still need improvement.

Retell powers 100M monthly calls with OpenAI models. Retell AI said its voice-agent platform surpassed 100 million monthly calls in September 2026, up from 30 million early in the year, serving more than 4,000 businesses. The company said OpenAI models generate responses for more than 80% of calls, GPT-6 Astra led its internal voice-agent benchmark, and Retell has consumed 1 trillion OpenAI tokens.

Retell is a scaled OpenAI deployment, not proof yet of human-agent displacement: it handled 100M September calls, with OpenAI models on more than 80%, after consuming 1T tokens. The test is whether its 4,000+ businesses maintain that reliance as usage expands.

Liquid AI releases LFM3 multimodal models. Liquid AI released LFM3, a family of six open-weight multimodal models in the roughly 2-billion-parameter class. The lineup covers text, vision, audio, omni, and decision tasks, while LFM3-1.7B uses a tri-hybrid architecture, supports 256,000-token context, and requires approximately 1 GB of memory at 4-bit quantization.

Amazon stands to gain most from Anthropic’s IPO. Anthropic’s IPO filing shows that strategic investors, led by Amazon, could capture substantially larger gains than its venture backers. At Anthropic’s reported $965 billion private valuation, even a 1% holding would be worth nearly $10 billion, while no venture firm listed in the filing owns the 5% threshold required for principal-stockholder disclosure.

Amazon appears better positioned than Anthropic’s venture backers to capture IPO upside: at the reported $965 billion private valuation, a 1% stake is worth nearly $10 billion, while no venture firm disclosed 5%. The test is Amazon’s disclosed holding.

CISA says attackers are exploiting Node2Shell. CISA confirmed that attackers are exploiting a critical Brotli vulnerability referred to as Node2Shell, Broccoli2Shell, and HTTP2Shell. Its addition to CISA’s active-exploitation warnings means the flaw has moved from disclosed software risk to observed attacker use.

CISA’s active-exploitation warning makes Node2Shell an urgent patch priority, not routine Brotli maintenance: attackers are already using it. Watch for CISA to identify additional affected HTTP components by November.

Tsunami exposure linked to later obesity and heart disease. A study reported that people exposed to the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami showed greater later-life susceptibility to obesity and heart disease. The findings add to evidence that severe trauma can produce lasting metabolic and cardiovascular effects decades after the initial event.

2004 tsunami exposure should be recognized as a long-term cardiometabolic risk marker, not only an acute-trauma concern. The test is whether disaster-response guidance explicitly recommends lifelong metabolic screening for exposed people by 2028.

Loon clears a key hurdle for a Canadian-dollar stablecoin. Calgary-based Loon received a final prospectus receipt from the Ontario Securities Commission and exemptive relief to issue its Canadian dollar-backed CADC stablecoin in Canada. Paytrie, which created CADC before Loon spun out last year, also received relief to distribute the token; Loon must still migrate legacy CADC to a new contract and complete remaining compliance work before full issuance.

Loon has cleared the OSC hurdle, but CADC remains incomplete until legacy tokens move to its new contract and compliance work is finished. The test is whether Loon and Paytrie translate their exemptive relief into Canadian distribution after migration.
