Pentagon stops using Anthropic AI tools after blacklisting company. The US Department of Defense has stopped using Anthropic products after previously designating the AI company a supply-chain risk on national-security grounds, according to a Pentagon official cited by the BBC. People familiar with the matter said Claude had recently been used for research, analysis, intelligence gathering, and military operations involving Iran.

Anthropic’s Claude remained in use for Iran-related operations eight months after Hegseth’s February blacklist, indicating the designation did not immediately end operational reliance. The test is whether tighter usage audits and cleared-LLM contracts emerge before FY27.

Mistral unveils its trillion-parameter “Le Chonk” model. Mistral has released a new trillion-parameter model, dubbed “Le Chonk,” as it seeks to compete at the frontier of AI development. The company describes it as the strongest open-weight offering outside China, targeting organizations that want deployable large-scale models.

Mistral is raising the bar for open-weight rivals: at 1T parameters, deployability is its frontier differentiator. By October 2027, watch for evidence that organizations deploy Le Chonk—not just test its “strongest outside China” claim.

The physical backbone of AI: compute, data centers, supply chains, and the geopolitics of energy

Canada’s major-projects boom could create openings for smaller firms. A Business Development Bank of Canada and Transition Accelerator report estimated that Canadian AI, energy, defence, housing, mining, and gas projects could attract more than C$670 billion in additional investment over four years. Delivering them could require 280,000 small and medium-sized businesses and generate as much as C$443 billion in related economic activity.

280,000 SMBs cannot all share C$670 billion in upside if Canada’s roughly 5 GW of grid headroom is rationed: one 700 MW AI or LNG site absorbs 14%. By 2027, the test is whether provinces publish allocation rules that protect smaller projects’ timelines.

MCP for agent-to-agent communication may be a major security risk. Google and four other organizations have acknowledged vulnerabilities in which malicious instructions can pass from one AI agent to trusted internal agents. These attacks exploit trust relationships between specialized agents, potentially enabling data exfiltration or other unauthorized actions.

Google and four other organizations have acknowledged agent-to-agent vulnerabilities, making trusted-agent authorization a failed security boundary. MCP messages should be treated as untrusted input. The test is whether the next disclosed flaw exploits a trusted-agent pivot.

Wearable data points to a more personal definition of insufficient sleep. Researchers at the National University of Singapore analyzed long-term wearable sleep data to examine whether insufficient sleep is better defined against an individual’s usual pattern than population-wide duration thresholds. The work supports a more personalized way to identify departures from a person’s baseline sleep.

6-hour cutoffs are weaker at flagging next-day sluggishness than multimonth personal baselines, NUS data indicate. The test is whether consumer wearable data replicate that edge over the <6-hour rule.
