Iran strikes cause permanent AWS customer-data loss. Amazon Web Services said it could not restore access to some customer resources and data after Iranian drone strikes hit data centers in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. AWS identified permanent data loss in the mec1-az2 availability zone in its UAE region and said regional recovery efforts were still underway.

AWS’s 11-nines durability claim proved inadequate in mec1-az2: Iranian strikes caused permanent UAE customer-data loss. The test over the next six months is whether AWS reports that UAE customer data can be restored after the loss of an entire availability zone.

Claude adds Docs and Slides. Anthropic has introduced Claude Docs and Claude Slides, enabling users to create and edit documents and presentations directly from Claude conversations. The launch extends Claude beyond question-answering and coding into everyday office productivity workflows.

Anthropic is not yet a credible Workspace challenger: Docs and Slides broaden Claude into productivity, but it still lacks key parts of Google’s core bundle. The test is whether Anthropic adds spreadsheet support or enterprise pricing.

Portage closes a $600 million fintech venture fund. Toronto-based Portage closed its fourth fintech venture fund at approximately $600 million USD, bringing the Sagard affiliate’s total assets under management to $7 billion USD. Portage Ventures IV will invest from seed through Series C across wealth and asset management, banking, insurance, and payments.

Broadridge and Fifth Third Bank are Portage IV’s differentiator, not decoration: strategic LPs matter only if the $600 million fund produces publicly disclosed portfolio-company relationships. The test is whether either is named in one by September 2027.

CISA and NIST publish cloud-identity protection guidance. CISA and NIST released Interagency Report 8587, implementation guidance for federal agencies and cloud service providers on protecting identity tokens and assertions from theft, forgery, and misuse. The guidance covers controls for SSO, federated identity, and API-based access systems that adversaries can use for lateral movement and access to sensitive data.

CISA’s 250-comment IR 8587 sets a measurable benchmark: agencies and providers should be judged on whether SSO, federation, and API controls reduce token theft, forgery, and misuse. By its next revision, the test is whether they can show evidence.

Four to six daily whole-grain servings may support heart health. A systematic review and meta-analysis of 87 clinical trials found that consuming four to six servings of whole grains a day was associated with improvements in body weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, triglycerides, and some inflammation measures. Published in the European Heart Journal, the analysis consolidates trial evidence on a dietary pattern relevant to metabolic and cardiovascular health.

87 trials support setting four to six daily whole-grain servings as a cardiometabolic target: the meta-analysis associates that intake with improvements in weight, waist, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides and some inflammation. The test is whether committees update targets within two years.

Markets edge higher as technology leads. The S&P 500 gained 0.3%, the Nasdaq 100 rose 0.7%, the Dow Jones was essentially flat, and the Russell 2000 added 0.4%. Technology led sectors with a 0.9% gain while energy lagged, down 1.9%; AMD climbed 3.8%, COIN fell 3.8%, and SMCI gained 3.5%.

AMD and SMCI gains show technology drove the advance, while the flat Dow and 1.9% energy drop point to narrow leadership. The test is whether gains broaden beyond technology.
